Civic Museum of Bari

Inaugurated more than a century ago, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the Murat district, the Civic Museum of Bari is housed in a historic building in the area of Arco Petroni, and houses a large collection of historical artifacts including the Cradle of the Marquis of Montrone and a volume of 1513, the first to be printed in Bari.

The Museum is largely made up of the artistic and documentary assets inherited from the Tanzi family: oil paintings with portraits of the ancestors of this illustrious family of Bari and a rich armory. The documents in the archive constitute an enormous wealth of information for the reconstruction of civic and regional history from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century, through the events of the members of the Tanzi family, who had the social and economic life of Bari as their context and scenario.
