Saint Nicholas dock

The dock is one of the main landing points of the city of Bari, the starting point of the visit of the city for many tourists. Bari, a city facing the sea, has in it’sdock the testimony of its maritime vocation.

It is an architecture rich in references to shipbuilding, recalled in the rounded shapes of the volumes, in the porthole windows, in the railings of the terraces.

Also known as “N’ dérr la lanze”, it is the place occupied bylocal fishermen by day and of Bari’s nightlife by night.

On the day of the Saint Nicholas holiday there is a solemn procession in which the statue of the Saint is taken to the dock where a Eucharistic celebration is held presided by the Archbishop of Bari; the statue is then transported into the sea by a procession of boats By evening, the boats gather at the pier where the return of the Saint to the basilica is greeted, through a new sumptuous procession at the top of which is the “artefìzzie” or burst of fireworks.
